I have a huge problem! When I wash my hands at my bathroom sink I always take off my wedding rings so that they will not get soap residue in them. I usually place them in a certain dish next to the sink, but I was in a rush and just threw them in the general direction. I am usually pretty accurate in getting them into the dish. Apparently today I was not so accurate. I soon turned the water on and started washing my hands when I suddenly see something shiny fly down the drain. I look over to wear I thought my rings were and they were missing. I then realized that the shiny thing I saw fly down my sink were my wedding rings! Is there any way you can help me? My husband comes home in a few hours and would really prefer for him to never know. I need a residential plumber, please help!

Dear Ringless Housewife,

Do not worry about a thing, we would be happy to tell you exactly how to find your ring. It is actually not very difficult, but I hope you are strong because it does require some upper body strength. I also hope you are not scared to get a little dirty because the insides of bathroom pipes are not always the most pleasant things. First off, we recommend you gather a few tools. You will want a bucket, a wrench and some rubber gloves to keep you clean.

The first step you will take is going underneath the sink to the pipes. You will notice that there is a pipe that makes an 'S' shape. Place your bucket underneath this pipe because it will most likely pour out water once removed. You will then use your wrench to unscrew the bolts holding the pipes together. Once it is loosened enough it should be able to come right off. As the water is pouring into the bucket, you will need to be inspecting this pipe you just removed. It will most likely be dirty, but just keep looking for your shiny ring. You may also want to look in the bucket as well just in case it got stuff before it even hit the trap.

Once you have found your ring you will need to replace the pipe. All you will need to do is place the pipe back and tighten the bolts with your wrench. You will want to make sure that the bolts are very tight so that there are no leaks.

Hopefully these few easy steps have helped you and you are able to find your wedding rings. Now next time you go to wash your hands you will remember to take your rings off before even entering the bathroom so this never happens to you again. If you need professional plumbing service help be sure to contact your local plumber.
